ImageI offered my first impression of Uganda (in my state of initial culture shock), and then haven’t written since…Shame on me! And now I don’t even know where to begin because so much has happened up to this point. Our experience in Jinja was unforgettable. After spending four weeks there, I walked away with a renewed confirmation of God’s intention for our family to join the Jinja Team. God was faithful to provide just what I needed to experience the reality of our decision, and still gain a sense of excitement for what is to come. And what is to come is coming very quickly! We have set our departure date for November 7th, and before that date we have a house to sell, a container to pack and ship, a garage sale to set up, and a Disney vacation to take! Life is non-stop right now, but very focused and purposeful, which offers fulfillment despite our fatigue.

After returning from Africa we spent two short weeks at home, before taking a road trip to Vero Beach, Florida to spend time with Mark’s family and one of our supporting congregations, the Vero Beach Church of Christ. This is the church where Mark was raised. We are so thankful for our time in Vero. Luke learned to swim without floaties, Lydia Jane got golden from the sun, and I got a little taste of what living in Florida is like (which I’ve always wanted to do…).  We appreciate so much the hospitality and generosity of the Vero Beach Church and look forward to some of them visiting us in Jinja!

When we returned from Florida we immediately went Up North (in Michigan Up North is a place, not a direction!) to spend time with some of our most special friends. In just one house there were nine adults, one teenager, and twelve children, one not even two weeks old! It was a weekend of simply sharing life together. We love our friends and will greatly grieve being separated from them. They have offered so much encouragement and support throughout this past year, and even though they won’t be traveling with us to Africa, they are still such an important part of this journey.

Please pray for us as we try to be patient and wait upon the Lord to sell our home. In addition there is much to do toward the packing process. God has been so faithful to us – we just know His hand is in this part as well!
