April Showers of all Kinds! PDF Print E-mail

ImageI am writing this on the evening of Sunday April 24th, a day we’ve been anticipating for a few months now. $40,000 on 4/24. That was the goal, and once again, God provided and exceeded our expectations. Today, Mark and I witnessed incredible generosity from our church family as they intentionally and sacrificially contributed $57,000 toward our ministry. Knowing both our God and our church family, this really comes as no surprise, and yet I’m still amazed. We are both incredibly excited and humbled by their gift, and the way God showered His blessings on us. We are a part of something very special at the Rochester Church of Christ. We consider it an honor to be apart of this Body of Christ. We are excited about their involvement in God’s ministry in Jinja, Uganda, and pray God blesses them for their generosity and encouragement to our family.

We may have been anticipating this day, and we may have been confident through faith that the goal would be met, but there is no way we could have ever guessed that on this “supposed-to-be Spring day” we would have experienced a historical snow storm! We received up to 6 or 7 inches of snow last night and today. The sight of snow covering every tree and their new blooms and buds evoked mixed emotions. I really didn’t no whether to laugh or cry. Considering most of Michigan was in shorts and a t-shirts, enjoying eighty degree weather just last Tuesday made me want to laugh at the irony of the week. On the other hand, considering we just completed five months of a very unusually snowy winter, I really just wanted to have a good cry, close our blinds, remain inside and pretend it never happened. But then…

…as I sat pouting last night a revelation came to me: What if God was sending the snow just for Mark and I? Think about it…For the past six years God has provided financially for our family through snow. In fact, “Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let is Snow” has been my family theme song for as long as I can remember! And God has been so faithful. What if He showered us with snow one last time to remind us that He will continue to be faithful to provide for us? How exciting is that! And then, He didn’t just send snow flurries, He sent a snow storm – at the end of April! It simply had to be divine. And as the snow poured in, so did the generosity of our family and friends. Most of Michigan will remember today for this record breaking weather, but I’ll remember it as the day my faith grew.

So inspirational!!!
It is absolutely amazing how God blesses us and takes an extra step to show and make us truly know how much he cares! I actually cried when I started reading about your optimistic outlook on something many Michiganians would look at as "just more white stuff." Having lived in Georgia for over five years now, I can tell you that I truly miss the white stuff, and I have seen a little down here and visited up there during the winter a few times enough to have some occasional winter fun. But I can only imagine how five years in Uganda would make me really miss a cozy wintery day by the fire. Perhaps God was giving you one last chance to play and enjoy something you may be missing in the years to come. :grin

God bless you. I hope to sometime soon be able to join you over there, even for a little while.

With Christian Love,
Stacy Colwell

You made me grow too!!
I remember that day too. I will never look at that day again and think about how depressed I was to see snow again. I will remember that my friend had a wonderful reminder of how the Lord speaks to us. Thank you Lord for your love and thank you for sending this to Lori at a time she needed it most.

In Him,
Simone
