Last year one of the many African dogs that roam the peninsula of Jinja decided to make her home outside of our gate.  Angel, as she became known our night watchmen and children, was obviously not the most popular dog in the pack, just a skinny and somewhat ugly mutt with some apparent emotional problems.  We called her Angel because we imagined she was there to watch over us (by helping keep the nightwatchmen awake).  While we were in the States last fall, we learned that Angel attracted a couple of "special friends" in the neighborhood.  So last week, six puppies were born in Angel's "nest" on the outside of our compound.  And as of four days ago, our boys accomplished the unlikely when they convinced Lori and me that they should (and could) help take care of them.  As it turns out, our boys aren't the ones interested in the puppies...

Greetings from Clarksville, AR from Bekka's Aunt
Mark,
I am Bekka's aunt, Tina. I hope this finds you all doing well...I see that the baby is growing! You have precious kids! That new cousin Chloe is a cutie, too, isn't she?!
We have a small congregation of about 100. Our children bring food every week for others and bring it to the front each Sunday as their contribution before the contribution is passed. It helps keep them involved. Last week, our teens went to Christteens and the emphasis was on world hunger. To make a long story short, they decided that with the little ones, they would add money every Sunday to sponsor a child. The cost was $32.00 a month, so they knew that this would be do able. They really didn't know anything much about the organization that was mentioned, so I thought of you! :-) I was wondering if you knew a family that this might help...or is it too little to even help?? I just thought it might be nice to know someone that actually knew the child or children that this would help. Would you be interested in doing this? It might even be that you could help a different child a month? Or different family? Would $32.00 be enough to actually help anyone over there? Don't feel like you have to do this. If you don't have time or if it is too much trouble, don't worry. I just thought of you and know that you know the people personally, which to me would be nice so the kids could maybe see pictures from you or be able to hear about the kids they were helping.
Let me know what you think!
I admire you greatly.....you are doing a wonderful work! Say "hi" to Lori.

What a doll. She is going to take after her Papa and be an animal rescuer! Wish we could have let her play with the puppies while you were here.
