Happiness is…embracing my wife at the airport with my three children draped over my back after being worlds apart for a month.  Joy is also welcoming my mother and sister to experience life in Uganda with us…a life that we fail to adequately and accurately describe with words and pictures as we attempt to do on our website.

Lori and I led separate but busy lives during September.  She was making memories in Michigan with friends and family.  I immersed myself more deeply into the work in Busoga and cultures of Uganda.  We both feel blessed for all that we experienced apart from each other especially since we are back together to share and process it all.  Check out Life Without Walls and Fences on the jinjamission.org site for some reflections on the five days I spent in Nawangoma village and Elgon Adventure for an account and video of my experience on Uganda’s Mount Elgon with teammate Adam Langford.

Our living room in October was made more alive by the presence of my mom and sister Marie.  One recurring conversation we enjoyed was the similarities my mother saw between present-day Uganda and “old” Singapore where she was born and raised.  While Singapore today is a thriving, cosmopolitan world business center, it was at one time characterized by villages and vestiges of the British Empire that compose Uganda’s landscape.  It was enjoyable and enlightening to hear my mom’s reflections and get glimpses into her first life through the lens of my present life.  It was also fun for us and our children to make memories with my mom and sister here among the beautiful people and places of Uganda.  Check out these short videos: wmv 2006 Jinja Journey and wmv 2006 Murchison
