I continue to be amazed by the fact that God has been leading my family into our new future primarily through and with people that were such an essential part of our past. We just returned from a six week trip from Michigan to Vero Beach, Florida and back again with several points in-between, visiting friends, family, and churches who have chosen walk with us on our missionary path to Uganda, financially, spiritually, and personally (by visiting we hope!). It was true joy to retell stories and recall memories that have intertwined our lives together in such meaningful and often humorous ways. These recent encounters with the people from my past went beyond the stories and those memories we shared, because God has continued to weave our lives together for a new story in Uganda, my family’s future.
It is easy to observe the way God has created-and re-creates-in the natural world we live in with its changing seasons and the cycle of death and life. More subtle and powerful is the way he creates and recreates our relationships to redeem us of our individual weaknesses to give us hope and purpose for and with each other. I developed an awareness in my time with people from my past how much God has shaped me through them, even when time and distance separated us. That God should bring so many incredible people back into my life as me and my family prepare for a new venture speaks to God’s providence and faithfulness in His dealings with us – He’s always creating a future from our yesterdays and todays.
